MAKING E-Z TRAILS GRANOLA
YES..... IT'S OIL & CHEMICAL FREE...........and E-Z to make!

The recipe for E-Z Trails Granola in the book may be a little confusing because it's made using the same bread pans & mixing bucket you use to make pug bread (the book is designed for individuals who have minimum kitchen skills & equipment).  I'll give you some suggestions further down this page on how to make it quicker using a couple of large roasting pans & big mixing tub if you have them.

Don't worry about making a 5 gal batch: we have stored this granola packed in 1 gal jars and kept it in a dark, cool pantry for 8 months without any problem.

Pull out your recipe page for E-Z TRAILS GRANOLA, go to the store and follow the shopping list on the back and buy all the required ingredients.

In the kitchen get your "Ingredients" and "Equipment needs" ready.

The pictures below correspond to the "Numbered Steps" on your recipe page.

Tip: The thicker sweeteners will pour easier if kept in a
warm water bath.  (honey, molasses, maple syrup, etc.)

Tip: Don't worry about using exact measurements for the ingredients unless you want to maintain the recipe's nutritional values printed in the book.  "Eyeballing" works good. (i.e. You can probably buy your honey in a jug so that you use half of it for step #1, and since you'll do step #1 twice, you'll use it all up.)

#5
If you only have 4 loaf pans, continue on to Step #6 and bake them now. If you have 8 loaf pans, REPEAT STEPS 1,2,3,4 above: you will then have 8 loaf pans filled with coated oats.

Note: Although the recipe calls for a pan rotation after 20 minutes, it is advisable to rotate your pans every 10-15 minutes and give the oats a little stirring. (Your oats may also bake faster than the 45 minutes suggested in the recipe: remove them from the oven when they are golden brown).

If you only have a 5 gal (or smaller) pail, mix your baked oats & add-in ingredients 2 pans at a time:

After you have mixed the 2 pans of baked oats and the add-in ingredients listed on the recipe page, scoop the mixture into your gal containers partially filling each one.

Repeat this procedure for each set of 2 pans until all ingredients are mixed and packaged.
Sorry if this is a little confusing, but it really is an easy way to thoroughly mix all your ingredients and ensure a good even distribution of them.................................

*UNLESS you happen to have a BIG TUB like the one below in which you can mix the large volume of ingredients (about 25 lbs) and then scoop/fill each gal jar one at a time (this is also the recommended mixing procedure if you're going to store your granola in a 5 gal pail).

A QUICKER WAY

If you have one or two large roasting pans like this:

Bake your oats in it/them.

& If you have a large pail like this:

Mix all the ingredients at once after your baked oats have cooled.

HAVE FUN: GO NUTS
You have the ability to make some really great tasting/super nutritious granolas. These are cost prohibitive for cereal manufactures to make and sell in grocery stores (they would have to retail for $10-$20/box due to manufacture and retail mark-ups). Membership stores like COSTCO & SAMS CLUB carry bulk oats, honey, walnuts, almonds, pecans, pine nuts, macadamia nuts, raisins, vanilla, cinnamon and some dried fruits.
